Learning opportunities for retirees
U3A is a worldwide organisation for retired and semi-retired people. The U3A in the Northern Rivers (Lismore) region is a community organisation dedicated to learning and fellowship. It is a mutual-aid movement; a modern community of scholars; one catering primarily for “Third Age” people; people best described as being in active retirement.
Its aim is to provide both the stimulus of mental activity and the satisfaction of active participation. It enables new interests to be taken up and old ones to be extended.
It offers the joy of learning for learning’s sake, unrestricted by the requirements of vocation, or the desire for qualifications; and it does so principally by drawing upon the extensive experience, skills and energies of its own members.
Lismore U3A is one of many similar U3A organisations in Australia. Formed in March 1994 we offer a large range of courses each week; all of these at no or low cost.
We are a member of U3A Network NSW Inc.
Management and tutors are volunteers. U3A Lismore uses a range of venues to run classes, and the management committee are home based with regular executive meetings.
